General Conference

Last time I watched General Conference, I was constantly trying to get the kids to be quiet so I could listen.  This time, I decided to focus on listening as best I could while taking care of the kids, and not to yell at them.  Because that really doesn't help anyone... I can read the talks when I get my Ensign.

To get the kids interested, we played General Conference Bingo like usual.  This time I was smart enough to use stickers instead of beans or candy (which I am still digging out of the couch from last conference).

We also introduced Treat Buckets.  This worked so well, that Dakota was mad at the end of each conference session.  (Of course I used plastic cups with words written on them with a sharpie instead of the cute bucket varieties you'd find in other mom's homes).

I try to update our  72 Hour Kits every General Conference.  I wasn't very good at it until I enlisted Dakota's help.  When I mentioned General Conference, he mentioned that we got to eat our 72 hour kits.  So, we pulled the old food out, ate anything that would expire before the next conference, put new food in, added a few things, and exchanged clothes for larger sizes.

Our kids love Family Home Evening.  Dakota loves giving the lesson using flannel board stories.  I'm too cheap to buy them, so I make them.  They're easy, but a little time consuming.  So, I started coloring and tracing new Flannel Board Stories during General Conference.  They are a great way to keep my hands busy while still listening.  (I love Conference but have a tendency to fall asleep when I sit for long periods of time).

  1. That's a great idea to refresh your 72 hour kits during conference. We do the bingo too. It certainly seems to help. Ya, I agree about trying to enjoy the conference....it's hard for all 4 sessions. so I usually only make them sit through one per day until their older.
